We have employees who drive as part of their job. Should we require to drug test them? — HR Generalist, Health services

Background checks are a great idea, especially when unemployment is high and fraud by candidates for employment is equally high. Specifically when it comes to employees that drive for your firm checking their driving record is a must. The liability your firm carries when they get behind the wheel to perform their job is huge. You need to know if they are prone to accidents, as well as if they have ever been irresponsible (e.g. drinking and driving) while behind the wheel. Be consistent though in this practice, ensuring all that drive as part of their job get checked.
