NYC Bill Proposes the Ban of Salary History Inquiries

bigstock-122158910On August 16, 2016, a bill was introduced to the City Council of New York City that would prohibit employers from asking prospective employees about their salary history. The bill would also prevent employers from reviewing other applicant attributes including work history and education when determining levels of pay. To date, Massachusetts is the only state to implement a similar bill, although one has also been introduced in the New Jersey Assembly. The NYC bill is currently under review by the Committee on Civil Rights, and a public hearing could occur before the end of 2016.
