New York: Final Paid Family Leave Regulations Adopted

New York Us State Law Legal System ConceptNew York’s revised Paid Family Leave Benefits Law has been adopted by the Workers’ Compensation Board, and will be effective January 1, 2018. As mentioned previously, the regulations “will cover employees whose regular employment schedule is at least 20 hours per week and have worked at least 26 consecutive weeks before the first full day of family leave begins”. The new law covers paid leave for providing care for family members and bonding with newborn or newly adopted children, as well as other qualifying reasons under the Family and Medical Leave Act. Employers should review the new legislation to establish if coverage will be necessary, and if so, if it will be obtained via an insurance carrier.
