Job Description Exercises
Over time employee’s roles and responsibilities evolve and change, so much so in some cases that management is unaware of who really does what each day. All too often we find out how much job descriptions have changed at the wrong time – when someone is leaving the firm. Take the time once a year to ask your employees to fill out a simple questionnaire that asks them what their job is, focusing as well on tasks that occur regularly vs. occasionally. This exercise will leave you better prepared to move resources around and more effectively determine what you next hire should be brought on to do.
