Experts Say Annual Review Plus Frequent Check-ins are Key to Employee Success

While many organizations may consider shifting away from annual performance review cycles in favor of providing employees with constant, ongoing feedback, experts say that it is a combination of the two approaches that is most effective in boosting employee performance. Bloomberg BNA reports that companies who only review performance on an annual basis run the risk of missing opportunities to address and improve upon performance issues, and may lose employees who do not feel recognized for their accomplishments.

Conversely, Bloomberg BNA points out that those who only offer instant feedback may lose the opportunity to provide employees with a big picture look back at performance, and lose the opportunity to support decision making tied to the employee’s performance.
