No matter how good you think your management team is at keeping a secret – they aren’t. It is seemingly inevitable that members of your organization are going to find out bits and pieces of some changes coming down the pike that you have yet to formally communicate. What makes this worse is when you have a history of holding news back. A better approach is to tell your employees what is going on when you know it and doing so in a formal fashion. Emails followed by company meetings where employees can ask questions can pay huge dividends. The more you maintain an air of mystery as to where the future leads the more you open your firm up for speculation and distrust.
