Talent Acquisition Case Study 1:

A startup technology firm in need of several critical hires across multiple disciplines.

ISSUE

A startup technology firm needed to staff up with several critical hires in multiple disciplines, all at a time when funds raised were tight and ideally allocated for product development, marketing, and sales. Traditionally their Private Equity backers would have used a search firm / headhunter to source the candidates they sought, albeit at an average fee of 25% of annual compensation per position filled. They needed a more economical option while securing the same quality of talent.

SOLUTION

OI stepped in and worked in partnership with the company leadership, as well as the investors, to create the profiles of the needed hires. We then commenced with a comprehensive sourcing campaign that yielded pools of qualified candidates for each open position. Further, we engaged and documented all those we contacted for future possible contact when second and third round hiring activity resulted in the need for those candidates that missed the mark today but could be solid options for hire tomorrow.

RESULTS

The client filled all positions within 75 days at a net savings of over 70% off the comparable fees they otherwise would have paid to a search firm. Further, the database / pipeline created of candidates for future hire also delivered several new hires within 12 months at a reduced time to hire, and at an even lower cost per hire.

A Professional Services firm with minimal internal HR capabilities with a need to handle candidate sourcing, screening, and selection.

ISSUE

Professional Services firm with minimal internal HR capabilities required their management team to handle their own candidate sourcing, screening, and selection. The time consumed on this exercise was impacting their core business and specifically the ability for the hiring managers to address their other responsibilities.

SOLUTION

OI took over as a virtual recruiting department for the client. We established with senior leadership a budget and a process, which we then rolled out to field management. We then went on to meet with each functional area, including staff, to ensure we understood the qualifications they needed in newly hired resources, as well as the profile of the department and the company culture. Following this, we took over all candidate sourcing and screening responsibility, while also providing several tools designed to aid in the selection process.

RESULTS

Time to hire was cut by almost 40%. Turnover dropped by virtue of the more complete selection process. Managers used the time they used to spend on recruiting towards their other tasks, adding to the bottom line productivity of their organizations. The client deemed the partnership “cost neutral” in that the value we delivered cancelled out the expense for our services.
