Inclement Weather Policies and Procedures
September 27th, 2011 11:00am to 12:00pm
If employers learned anything from the winter of 2010-11 it was that many of us were ill prepared for dealing with week upon week of snow days, ice storms and the threat of bad weather. I think it is fair to say that in this case the presence of technology is BOTH a blessing and a curse. On the one hand our people can more easily work remotely when they can’t get to work and/or are unwilling to risk the ride into work when the weather is threatening. On the other hand it is almost too easy to take the easy way out and proclaim “I’m working from home today”, which in itself carries a ton of issues ranging from wage and hour compliance issues, productivity, liability and even morale problems. What can today’s employer do to overcome these issues before they get out of hand…again?
Spend an hour with us and we’ll share some ideas for combating this oldie but goody.
David Lewis, President and Founder of OperationsInc, a 10 + year old, 22 person Human Resources outsourcing and consulting firm based in Stamford, CT, will discuss these issues and more. In this fast moving and highly informational Webinar we will cover in concise, simple terms:
- Inclement Weather Policies– What to say so employees understand there are rules, the company is in control (not them) and that remote operation is the exception, not the rule
- Issues to be concerned with – A review of all the ways remote work on snow days can (and many times will) backfire
- Wage Issues – How the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) must be considered when addressing compensation for these days
- The Balance Between Safety and Abuse – Tips for how to walk the line without compromising someone’s innate fears
- Enabling Your Workforce to Operate Remotely – Tips for how to setup a seamless remote operation plan BEFORE you need it so it can be enacted when you do
- Dealing With Those Who Brave the Elements – Ways to reward those that show up despite the elements and in some cases because you give them no choice
