The economic world is as such whereby layoffs probably have been part of your past experience and could be part of your future. As a decision maker, selecting someone for layoff is never easy. That being said, focusing on the factual, tactical, and strategic vs. the emotional will get you a mix of remaining employees that gives your business the best chance of successful future survival. Looking at core skills, adaptability, and personalities will help you find those that can adjust to new roles and the absence of co- workers who have been laid off. In short, think it through and play a complete “what if this person was gone” game before making final decisions.
