San Francisco’s Paid Parental Leave Ordinance (PPLO) will be expanding effective July 1, 2017. The PPLO (which previously only applied to employers with 50 or more employees) will now also apply to employers with 35 or more employees. A further expansion to include smaller headcounts of 20 or more will also take effect on January 1, 2018. The San Francisco PPLO is “the most comprehensive parental leave law offered anywhere in the country”, and requires employers to supplement state paid leave up to a maximum of $980 per week.
