Proposed Equal Pay Legislation in NJ

Equality between man and woman concept with beam scales and signAfter being passed in the New Jersey Senate, a bill to adjust the state’s equal pay law and Law Against Discrimination is now out to the state Assembly. If enacted, Bill S992 would permit back pay if discriminatory paychecks are issued to employees. Additionally, the new legislation would forbid employer retaliation against employees for sharing information pertaining to titles or pay, as well as prohibit employers from compensating employees at a reduced rate for performing “substantially similar” work as someone of the opposite sex. New Jersey employers should keep up to date on any developments in order to be compliant with the new bill.
