Mandatory “Smart” I-9 Form

Effective January 22, 2017, it will be mandatory for all US employers to use the new version of the I-9 Form. The new form contains both content changes and “smart” features, which aim to make it easier for employers to stay in compliance. The new smart I-9 Form will allow users to complete the form on the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services website, and will ensure that sections of the I-9 form are not missed and are completed accurately. Additionally, some content-based changes have been made to Sections 1 and 2 of the form, including updates to the form’s instructions. Employers should review all changes and prepare to complete the new form as soon as it is released.
