MA Earned Sick Time Law Deadline Approaching

Boston, Massachusetts, USA Skyline at Fan Pier.As the new year approaches, Massachusetts employers should review their PTO and Sick Leave Policies to ensure they are in line with the Massachusetts Earned Sick Leave Law that went into effect on July 1, 2015. Up until the end of 2015, employers with paid time off policies meeting certain criteria could benefit from a “safe harbor”, but as of January 1, 2016, all MA employers must comply with the regulations. In preparation, employers should review their current policy to make sure it meets all requirements, including allowing employees to accrue and use up to 40 hours of sick time annually.
