For the managerial candidate this can help you understand how they motivate their people to perform or, in the case where this person was part of the team but not the leader, how well they recognize the motivating factors that led to over achievement. Overall you want to listen to what drove success, probing thereafter as to why perhaps it was not used before and how it was used thereafter. Generating performance to the point of exceeding goals is a huge asset, as is the recipe that was the catalyst.
