Due to immigration compliance receiving an increased amount of attention from federal agencies, it is imperative that documentation is fully completed. First, employers should confirm they are using the new Form I-9, titled “Form I-9 11/14/2016 N”. Second, employment re-verification taking place after January 22, 2017 must be completed on the new Form I-9, while attaching the old form and retaining the documents together. Finally, employers should check local laws to determine if E-Verify must be used along with the new Form I-9. Employers should take the time to review their current new hire procedures and ensure immigration and “authorization to work” records are current.
