Benefits & FMLA Leave

If an employee is on FMLA leave must the company pay for their benefits?
– Office Manager, Marketing Firm

The company has every right to go ahead and collect the same amounts the employee contributed while actively working. The challenge usually is that the portion the employee pays is taken as a deduction from their paycheck and most employees on FMLA leave are not collecting a paycheck. You, therefore, need to provide instructions to the employee as to how much they owe each month, when, and where it should be sent.
