Holiday Policy

bigstock-141722381It never fails that companies issue a holiday calendar in their employee handbook… and forget to update it to accommodate changes each year in the calendar. 2016 is a perfect example, as both Christmas and New Years Day fall on Sundays.

If you want to write a company holiday time-off policy that never has to be republished, then you must explain what happens to the day off for Christmas and Christmas Eve or New Years and New Years Eve when these holidays fall on Sundays. The best approach is to “generally” identify that there are holidays given, with reference to an annual distribution of that year’s schedule on or by January 1st,  or at time of hire.
