This seems like a very easy and logical question to ask…but this one seems to get all too little attention. Your offer to the candidate you select is going to be heavily influenced by their present situation. It is therefore imperative that you ask about base salary, date of last review, date of next review, bonuses received, and their payment date, future bonuses / dates, stock options and/or other equity vehicles, etc. Also, probe about their benefits and 401k plan. If their present employer pays for most of the insurance and has a generous match, you need to consider this when formulating the offer, as the candidate surely will.
