Affordable Care Act Executive Order Signed

President Trump has signed an Executive Order regarding the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. The Executive Order, intended to “Minimize the Economic Burden of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Pending Repeal”, provides general instructions to federal agencies (including the Department of Health and Human Services) allowing them to grant waivers and exemptions to employers under certain conditions and encourages them to “soften enforcement” until a repeal is in place. While the Order does not implement any immediate changes, employers should closely monitor this topic to stay aware of additional orders or congressional actions that could potentially affect their responsibilities under the Affordable Care Act.
