79% of Employers See Interns as Potential Fulltime Hires. And They’re Paying Them.

Norwalk, CT. [May 30, 2017] For the majority of businesses, hiring an intern potentially leads to their conversion into a full-time employee.

A recent survey conducted by human resourcing outsourcing and consulting firm OperationsInc (www.OperationsInc.com) has found that 79 percent of area businesses are seeing these resources as potential fulltime hires post-graduation. Additionally 80% of those surveyed are paying their interns via payroll, with some eighteen percent of businesses polled compensating their interns with course credit.

“Properly built intern programs are great feeder programs into any organization, and can be a critical piece of a firm’s talent acquisition strategy,” stated OperationsInc CEO David Lewis.

“It’s also great to see that area businesses are doing the right – and legal – thing and compensating their interns,” Lewis added.

ADDITIONAL KEY SURVEY FINDINGS:

  • 71% of businesses surveyed engage interns during the summer months only.
  • 29% of companies surveyed hire interns on a year-round basis.
  • 88% of survey respondents engage interns pursuing undergraduate degrees.
  • 23% of companies surveyed utilize graduate level interns.
